Zakir Hussain Rose Garden of Chandigarh is the largest rose garden not only in India but in the whole of Asia. Spread over 30 acres of land, this garden has more than 50,000 roses, including 1,600 varieties of roses. The special thing of this garden is that it is not just the rose flowers here, there are also plants which are famous among the people for their medicinal properties.


Every year in Chandigarh, a Rose Festival (Mahotsava) is also organized as a cultural event. Every year the festival is celebrated in the months of February to March, and it is celebrated to honor the roses, enhancing their magnificence and beauty. Many swings, food arrangements, many competitions for residents and institutions are also exhibited in this daily festival.



  • The famous Zakir Hussain Rose Garden of Chandigarh is one of the largest rose gardens in Asia.
  • 1600 species of roses are seen in this rose festival spread over 30 acres.
  • 50,000 rose plants have also been displayed in 1600 species.
  • There is no fee to see the Rose Festival. People can watch it for free from 10 am to 8 pm.
  • In the event of Rose Festival 2018 itself, an expenditure of about 55.67 lakhs has been incurred. Tourists are coming from all over the country and abroad to see it.
  • Many competitions and recreational activities have also been arranged to make the festival attractive.
  • Helicopter can also be reached in Rose Garden. A person spends Rs 2,380 in this 7 to 10 minute ride.
  • Cultural competitions include brass and pieb band, flower hat menking, folk dance, Mr. and Mrs. Rose, Paheli competition, Antakshari etc.
  • There are 50 gardeners to maintain this Rose Garden spread over 30 acres.
  • He has planted 15,000 roses with two months of hard work. Everyone else is already there or brought in from outside.
